What is the Rooted Behavior and Learning Collaborative Community?

Right now:

It's really just an idea I have. I want to create a collaborative network where people with disabilities, caregivers to people with disabilities, and professionals who support people with disabilities can organize information to better support everyone in our community.

I have invited some of the many neuro-affirming parents, caregivers, SLPs, OTs, PTs, BCBAs, Educators, Child Psychologists and other related professionals I know from the communities I live and have worked in to try to establish this foundation.

Once I have established that enough people are interested in helping to support the information side of things- we will grow to outreach and try to see if people are interested in a resource like this.

Short term:

I am imagining a digital forum where people can submit questions and needs, then members of the community can respond with the things they know. I am thinking about the big needs like service providers - but I am also thinking about the things your doctors and SSAs might not mention like where is the best place to get a sensory friendly haircut or have a meal in a restaurant without worrying about 15 hidden exits.

Long term:

If people get involved and are interested, this collaborative community could really grow! I am imagining free and low cost community events where resources can be shared and families can gather to meet other families in their area who might have similar needs dynamics.

Participate in gathering resources and sharing what you know to help create an online database of local resources
- Medical/Daily living: neuro-affirming doctors, dentists, support programs
- Community needs: barbers, hair dressers, community spaces, leisure programs
Gather family and parent input on current needs across communities

Commitment

I am willing to offer some time, on my own schedule (virtually), to review parent questions and needs and provide information where I am knowledgeable.

Commitment

I am willing to commit to attending a few events yearly and be a participant in the ‘in person’ community. I am also willing to offer some time, on my own schedule (virtually), to piece through parent questions and needs and provide information where I am knowledgeable.

Along for the ride

I like the idea and would love to be kept in the loop. I may attend community events as a participant, but I’m unable to commit time right now.
